‘Community’ Season 3 Review

Well, we’ve had a pretty interesting few episodes of Community this season. Some were good, some were bad, but overall the season seemed to end on a pretty positive note.

The season seemed to be especially slow to start. For a while when watching the new season, I felt a little uneasy – the show felt like a very well-trained impostor. After a few “misses” in terms of episodes, we finally got to see some gold with the history documentary and Law and Order spoofs.

Things seemed to trail off towards the ending, too. The problem with Community (spoiler: it’s not really a problem) is that when they hit gold, they REALLY hit gold. This is great, but as a viewer you’re left wanting more, even if what you’re getting is still silver, or bronze, or maybe a nice gold-plated earring from Wal-Mart.

That’s pretty much how I felt about the end of the season. Having three consecutive episodes probably didn’t help too much either, it was perhaps the definition of “too much of a good thing.” Still, while I absolutely adored the video game episode and thought that the Ocean’s Eleven episode was masterfully executed, I felt that the last episode tried to cram way too much stuff in. It seemed muddled and rushed.

Still though, the writers did manage to resolve some things – or did they? I suppose we’ll find out in season 4. That is, if they haven’t canceled it again this week.
