Disney Buys Lucasfilm, Star Wars Episode 7 Coming in 2015!

Big news coming from coming from the Star Wars camp today, but the Northeast may not be hearing about it for a few days.

Strategic timing or bad marketing? With hundreds of thousands without power in the Northeast due to Hurricane Sandy, Disney decided today was the right time to announce their new partnership with George Lucas.

In a shocking move, Disney has aquired Lucasfilm Ltd. and announced that a new Star Wars feature film, currently referred to as Episode VII, will be released in 2015, the same year that Disney plans to release The Avengers 2.

Kathleen Kennedy, current co-chair of Lucasfilm, will become president of the company and report to Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios Chairman.

Kennedy will produce Star Wars Episode VII, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant.

2012 marks the 35th anniversary of the original Star Wars, now subtitled A New Hope.

The last Star Wars film was Revenge of the Sith, released back in 2005.
