Young Bloods was exactly the type of episode I have been waiting for from Falling Skies.

This episode had it all. The plot moved at a great pace and the action was exciting. The opening scene was great as Matt came into contact with two skitters, who then got their heads blown off by two other members of the 2nd Mass. It was an awesome way to start the episode especially because Matt played such a big part.

His conflict with his father over playing a bigger role in this war is a great story for the youngest main character (and not too far off from Arya Stark on Game of Thrones). It worked especially well once his older brothers found a group of survivors made up of kids, one of whom was Weaver’s long lost daughter.

Which leads me to another great part of this episode, Weaver. Having one of his family come around was a great move. The show has done a wonderful job of developing his character, and this week seeing him as a father was a defining moment for him. Some of it was funny, some of it was touching, all of it was great.

The climax of Young Bloods was incredibly well put together. Aside from having Matt go with the kids and getting caught, we had some fun moments between Weaver and his daughter’s boyfriend. The conflict inside the skitter base was amazing. We finally got to see how the skitters harness the kids. Plus Ben had that weird glowy-spike thing happen again.

Unfortunately the fight ended too soon in the episode and we were left with twenty minutes for not too much happening. I was sad to see Weaver’s daughter go, however. It feels like a bit of a missed opportunity to have her leave so quickly.

Still though, Young Bloods was the best episode of the season yet. Hopefully we can get a lot more material like this in the coming weeks. (8.5/10)
