First Trailer for Pixar’s ‘Brave’!

Last Friday when Cars 2 hit theaters, audiences got a sneak peak at Pixar’s next film, Brave. The short teaser has me excited once again for a Pixar movie. Despite the less than favorable critical reaction to Cars 2, the sequel still had a great opening and won the box office. Hopefully Brave will bring Pixar back to the critical peak it has been at since Toy Story was released in 1995.

From the trailer, Brave looks to be a dark fantasy epic. The animation is beautiful and artful. The way the bear at the end of the trailer is animated shows the dark nature of this film. Since the release of Wall-E, Pixar has gone for some darker stories. The terror of watching all of the toys in Toy Story 3 almost meet their end still haunts me.

Brave seems to be embracing the studios new tendency to tell darker stories. I believe that this is a good thing and Brave can now be added to what is an already crowded summer 2012 to be excited for.

I’m iffy, man. The whole scottish narrator makes me feel echoes of How To Train a Dragon, but then again early teasers frequently capitulate on what we already know works and tells us less about the actual story. So I’m hopeful that I truly have no idea what this movie is about besides finding your heart like Oz’s tin man.
