Rumors broke last week but now it’s official…Gary Ross will not be returning to direct the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire.

Ross attributed his decision to the tight production schedule he would have to work under to get the film done on time. This announcement comes as no surprise if you look at Gary Ross’ directing career. He has only directed three films, Pleasantville in 1998, Seabiscuit in 2003, and now The Hunger Games.

Currently, Catching Fire is scheduled for a November 22nd, 2013 release, leaving about a year and a half to make it. Lionsgate will now search for another director to take his place.
