‘South Park: The Last of the Meheecans’ Review

At this point, it’s just nice to return to the typical episode of South Park. After the last two episodes that tried to change the way this show is done it was great to see a funny and topical episode. Last week Stan’s mom was right when she said it’s better to stick with what you know.

The Last of the Meheecans started with the fourth graders playing a newer version of cowboys and Indians. Half the kids were border patrol and the other half were Mexicans trying to cross their pretend border. Cartman of course led the border patrol meaning that Kyle was the Indian leader. It was a funny way to start the episode and led into the events of the rest of the episode perfectly.

During their game, Butters ends up getting lost and is found by a family who thinks he is actually a Mexican and have him clean their house. After a series of random events that perhaps went to fast for the episodes own good, Butters convinces the illegal immigrants in his area to go back to Mexico because America is worse than their homeland now. Parker and Stone have a good enough grasp on current events to pull this off without sounding preachy.

Once all the Mexicans leave, Americans realize how much they help out. Randy Marsh’s reaction to the pile of leaves in his yard was my favorite moment of the episode (probably because I’m a pretty big Star Wars geek). The ending has a funny showdown between Cartman and Butters.

One issue I had was how random all the events came after one another. It almost felt like an episode of Family Guy.  However, the laughs kept coming so it was a forgivable mistake.

So yeah, Last of the Meheecans didn’t make any big statements about the show. It didn’t have a depressing ending. It was simple South Park and while it wasn’t as well crafted or as funny as many other episodes, this is what I want to see the show continue to do. If this is the lowest quality we are going to see from now on, that’s fine by me. (8/10)
