Straight out of Celebration in Anaheim comes the second trailer for Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

Alright, so let’s break this thing down.

The opening shot shows a speeder going past the wreckage of two of Star Wars‘ most recognizable ships, an X-Wing and a Star Destroyer. It seems that the Galactic Civil War didn’t quite end with the destruction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi.

Cue a Luke voiceover recreated from that film. He speaks of the Force being strong in his family, as we see shots of Darth Vader’s partially melted helmet, a mysterious figure with a metal hand touching R2-D2, and a female being handed a lightsaber. Luke finishes the speech by essentially saying “There is another.” This seems to indicate that The Force Awakens will be keeping things in the Skywalker family, a smart move considering all six films point to this being their story more than anyone else’s.

Next, we get a montage starting with X-Wings flying over a bosy of water, Kylo Ren swinging the now famous new red lightsaber, and Rey, Finn, and BB-8 running from an explosion.

That’s when we get a close-up of Kylo Ren’s mask, with his lightsaber ignited and his hand extended, probably using the Force. He’s got stormtroopers behind him, which means that the Sith are still running the Empire, in whatever capacity it still exists. The next shot is bunch of them standing in front of a new emblem, indicating they may have a new cause or something.

We get some action shots, the most interesting being a TIE fighter attacking a hanger full of stormtroopers. There’s also the chrome stormtrooper many rumors have been floating around about.

Then we get one hell of a money shot of the Millenium Falcon being chased by a TIE fighter into the engine of a crashed Star Destroyer. God this looks good.

The final shot is what has most fans going crazy at the moment. We hear Han’s voice, “Chewie, we’re home,” and then the classic Wookie growl just before we’re shown the film’s logo. Are they rediscovering the Millenium Falcon? Either way, seeing these two surely makes a ton of fans feel right at home.

Overall, this second tease of the movie is a real winner. There’s the perfect mix of new and old.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18. Feast your eyes and prepare to wipe them a little after you watch the trailer below.
