Our worst fears have been realized. The Disney takeover of Lucasfilm is shifting gears to a new time period in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars just concluded its fifth season at the beginning of the month with an episode that, from a certain point of view, could have been a series finale.

It appears that has become a reality…sort of.

The fate of the series became a major question for fans when Disney bought out Lucasfilm last fall.

Today, it was announced that the series would not have a sixth season, but production still continues on upcoming story arcs. Huh?

According to the full press release, which you can find here, “While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content.”

That seems odd. So it’s cancelled, but not cancelled?

We know that a story arc involving Anakin and Padme was pulled from season five, and the video below has a clip that seems to show the seeds of Order 66 being planted. One can only hope to see the Darth Maul story wrapped up.

Meanwhile, Seth Green’s animated parody show Star Wars: Detours has also been delayed.

Lucasfilm Animation seems to want to bring the company in a new direction, as they announced a new animated series “set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming.”

Stayed tuned for more as it comes. And no matter where or when these new Clone Wars stories come, we will review them to keep the conversation going on this fantastic series.

Check out a message from Dave Filoni below, along with a clip from an upcoming story from Clone Wars.
