The countdown to summer is officially on, meaning that all our shows are wrapping up and the movies are starting to get bigger. This week is a large step in that direction. Here’s what not to miss.

If you aren’t patient enough to wait until May for Iron Man 3 or Star Trek Into Darkness, this Tom Cruise vehicle may be the special effects extravaganza to tide you over until we return to the land of blockbusters and superheroes. Also starring Morgan Freeman, the trailers feature some really cool visuals. A trip to the IMAX may be warranted. (In theaters Friday)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it aired last night, I know, but who really stays in on a Saturday to watch a comedy special? Oh, like everyone? Well we forgot this in last week’s Filtered Forecast so here it is. Louis C.K. did an HBO special. Enough said. (Watch it on HBO Go)

Despite not quite hitting the heights of last season (although, I can’t say I’ve seen another network comedy do that either), the fifth season has proven that Parks and Rec. is the most consistently funny show on TV right now. As the season winds down, we have two episodes back-to-back this week. The second of which has to do with Jerry’s retirement. We’ll miss him? (Thursday at 8:30 pm on NBC)

Quentin Tarantino’s Western walked away with two Oscars back in February. With the film finally coming home, those who missed it have the chance to see what all the buzz is about. While not as strong as Inglourious Basterds, the film does boast excellent performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz. (In stores Tuesday)

The films nominated for Best Movie are The AvengersThe Dark Knight RisesDjango UnchainedSilver Linings Playbook, and Ted. So the crowd pleasers. Also, expect exclusive looks at upcoming movies including Man of SteelFast & Furious 6World War Z, and the first ever footage of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
