The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Trailer Has Arrived!

The trailer shown at San Diego ComicCon is available online, and it’s very different from the previous Hobbit movie trailers.

The tone set for The Battle of the Five Armies is instantly darker than An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug. We’ve come to the end of The Hobbit trilogy.

Early on, the trailer has Bilbo talking over various ominous shots that include Gandalf riding into battle and Smaug incinerating Lake Town. Bilbo speaks of remembering the dead. This is not going to be pretty.

The preview really goes into high gear when Pippin’s song from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King starts playing (clever…). We’re told through text that this will be the “Defining Chapter” of the Middle-Earth Saga.

Perhaps the most exciting moment from the trailer is Bard the Bowman angrily asking “Will you have peace or will you have war?” only for Thorin to respond “I will have war!”.

Cue quick cuts between just about every major character in the trilogy fighting in the battle, followed by a split-second shot of Sauron’s flaming eye.

The trailer ends with Thorin asking, “Will you follow me one last time?”. Indeed.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters December 17. Check out the trailer below!
