This week’s episode of The Mindy Project was one of the most entertaining in weeks.

Mindy meets Casey (played by Anders Holm, who you may recognize as the most attractive lead of MTV’s Workaholics) on a subway, and what begins as a somewhat hostile exchange leads into him asking her out. Their first date does very smoothly, they have a very good rapport, until he starts praying when their food comes. Which reveals his occupation as a minister.

Mindy seeks counsel from Danny, a staunch Catholic, who agrees to go to Casey’s church with her on Sunday.

In a delightful aside, Rishi, Mindy’s adorable brother, is visiting her for spring break. In a hilarious exchange about Mindy’s church ensemble, we get just a taste of their perfect sibling dynamic, but how perfect it is.

Casey has a very hip and modern approach to preaching, having Moby there as a guest DJ and breaking into a Bruno Mars song halfway through his sermon. Mindy is completely taken with him, but he tells her that he doesn’t think they should date anymore because he doesn’t see her as a selfless person.

Devastated, Mindy does the only thing she can think of to prove him wrong and defy her own selfish ways: accompany the guys on a trip to volunteer at a women’s prison that she had previously objected to. From Morgan prepping the gang on how to behave in prison, to all the women lining up for an exam with Jeremy, to an especially sweet prisoner asking Mindy to fill her in on Real Housewives, this whole plot was flawless. When Mindy gives her favorite prison patient a candy bar, a full on prison riot breaks out. In the midst of the chaos, one of the prisoners cuts off a chunk of Mindy’s hair.

After all the chaos, Mindy and Rishi are enjoying a nice burrito when they bump into Casey. Rishi is perfect, scolding him and telling a charming story about how Mindy stuck up for him as a child. Casey apologizes for being condescending, and despite her best efforts, Mindy allows herself to be won over by him once again.

My favorite part about this show was showcased in this episode. Mindy brings out the absolute best in everyone she interacts with. Every co-star, guest star, extra. Between Mindy’s fantastic interactions, Morgan’s one liners, Rishi’s appearance, Morgan’s one liners, and suave minister asey, this was one of my favorite episodes this season. Grade: A-
