Wake Up! The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer is Online!

It’s officially the Christmas season and J.J. Abrams and co. just gave us a present with a bow in the shape of an X-wing. The trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here! Behold, our first look at the next era of Star Wars!

Let’s just start from the beginning. That may more may not be Tatooine. The Force Awakens did not film in the signature Tatooine locations, Tunisia, but it’s a desert. And John Boyega wakes up there in a stormtrooper outfit. Based on how exasperated he seems, I’m willing to bet he’s a good guy.

The voiceover throughout the trailer sounds like Andy Serkis, who sounds all sorts of evil. He references what many have suspected about the title, the Force has in fact awakened, and it’s not biased toward light or dark.

Next, we get a shot of a soccer ball astro-mech, followed by a bunch of stormtroopers waiting to be dropped into battle. The question remains of whether the stormtrooper are now on the side of good or evil. Based on the TIE fighters at the end, my guess is evil.

Then comes in Daisy Ridley, also on the desert planet, riding a larger speederbike than many of us are used to. More familiar are the X-wings that follow, flying low to the ground in a seemingly small squadron.

Finally, a lightsaber ignites, and you’ve never seen one like this. One of the film’s villains shows us a a red sword with side protection. It. Looks. Awesome.

But the real money shot of the teaser is the Millennium Falcon swooping down to fight some TIE fighters because this is freaking Star Wars people! The feel clearly resembles the old trilogy, shying away from the sensory overload that was the prequels. This trailer is very minimalist, and that’s a good thing.

There are new characters, vehicles, and droids, but enough that’s familiar that there’s no question this is a Star Wars movie.

The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18, 2015. Check out the teaser trailer below!
